Who is fanning your flame

Life Lately: Who is Fanning Your Flame?

I cannot believe that I am only getting around to writing my second post for A Beautiful Life now. Let’s just say January disappeared in a blink and February doesn’t seem to be slowing down! I watched a fantastic video recently posted by Will Smith, asking the question Who Is Fanning Your Flame, I will post it below. The video reminded me how important it is to surround yourself with people who are willing to fan your flames and not put them out. In essence, seek out positive people who will build you up, instead of tearing you down.

Life Lately

Our lives of late have been moving at an exceptionally rapid pace. It could have something to do with having two teenagers in the house who are constantly off doing something and naturally we are the taxi service. Please don’t get me wrong I am not complaining, but sheesh I could do with a shift in gear occasionally. So what do we do when things get chaotic, we try and simplify things, right? No, don’t be silly we add just a touch more chaos to our lives! This “chaos” comes in the form of a three-month-old rescue pup from Tears. It is our second rescue puppy, which I feel is the right thing to do. There are so many puppies/dogs in need of a good home.

So life lately has been anything but boring as we just finished our renovations and are now trying to house train our pup but she is having none of it! I can report that having a puppy is not for sissies, and there have been many “accidents” inside to clean up, as well as broken sleep, but like raising children I know, it will be worth it in the end. She is so cute as well, so it is difficult to stay mad for too long.

Other than puppy training I have been trying to get back into working on my blog, Inspired Living, after a bit of a break at the end of last year. I do enjoy blogging but have realised I need to dictate my own pace, as well as what I am willing to do and say no to more. I also have so many ideas for posts for  A Beautiful Life but need to make more time to write things down.

Who is Fanning Your Flame

I have never been someone who likes making New Years Resolutions but I do think it is important to have a game plan for the year ahead. It does not have to be a rigid plan, more along the lines of a foundation, something for you to build on. One of the main things that I decided to work on for 2018, is to cut the negativity from my life. Both people and things that I feel have a negative impact on my family and me.

While browsing through Facebook, which I tend to do less and less nowadays {as I said cutting the negativity!}, I happened upon this video posted by Will Smith; the timing was perfect. You should watch it for yourself, but the message is simple. Unless people are fanning your flames, they really shouldn’t be a part of your life. He also refers specifically to a quote from Rumi “Set your life on fire. Seek those who fan your flames.”

To be clear, when I say cut the negative people out of your life, I am not necessarily talking about acquaintances or people you follow on social media. It is, however, essential to be selective here as well. I am referring to people in your inner sanctum. The movie Meet the Fockers comes to mind when Jack Burns refers to “the circle of trust”. These are the people you let in, who know you intimately. Will says people you spend time with, should nourish and inspire you, and feed your flame. To quote him again, “are people around you throwing logs on your fire or are they pissing on it?” The people you spend time with are going to either make or break dreams.

So choose wisely and “defend your light with your life”.

So who is fanning your flame? Give them a shoutout in the comment section below. Until next time have a beautiful day!
